The differences between “经过” and “通过”

1. Both “经过” and “通过” can be used as a verb. They have the same meaning as “穿过”. “经过” has the meaning of “pass through” or “pass by” while “通过” can only mean “pass through”. For example:

从北京坐火车到上海去，要经过南京。

从河的北岸到南岸去，必须通过这座桥。
